23 - 24 September 2022
Two glorious days full of world-class wines, intriguing masterclasses, superb degustation menus, local producers and amazing photographs await in the premises of emblematic Selene on the 23rd and 24th of September.
On Friday, September 23rd, two thrilling wine masterclasses will be held inside the stunning St. Joseph Wine Cave of Selene, during which guests will have the rare opportunity to be guided through a truly unique wine tasting experience. The first masterclass will be presented by two famous Masters of Wine, Yiannis Karakasis MW and Caro Maurer MW, and will compare the Santorini Assyrtiko to the German Riesling, through the guidance of the masters themselves. The second masterclass by Yiannis Karakasis MW, a true specialist on the Santorini wine scene, will be exploring the ageing process of the world-famous Santorini Assyrtiko. Following these two exciting workshops, an intriguing photo exhibition, curated by Zoe Hatzigiannakis, will be opening on this same evening within the imposing Selene Tunnel. Expressions of Light will include the works of talented Greek photographers showcasing the other face of Santorini and the Cyclades to all guests walking through this mystical medieval passage.
On Saturday, September 24th, two quite different but equally amazing projects will unfold for the pleasure of our guests and all people desiring to get better acquainted with the unique wines of Santorini, as well as the history of the emblematic Selene. An all-day Santorini Wine Exhibition will be held in St. Joseph Wine Cave, titled Vedema 2022. “Vedema” is an Italian word, mostly used on the island of Santorini to describe the grape harvest, and it surely is the most appropriate name for an event allowing the local wine makers to present their one of a kind wines to the public. To bring this amazing two-day celebration most fittingly to an end, Selene Restaurant will be presenting a unique 6 hands & 13 courses dinner menu under the title Selene, A Journey Through Time. During this truly exquisite evening, some of Greece’s most esteemed culinary creators, such as Thodoris Papanikolaou and Panos Tsikas, who have worked in Selene in the past, will join forces with Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini to bring to life a menu inspired of course by Selene’s glorious history and the late Giorgos Hatzigiannakis, creator and soul of this emblematic restaurant.

For a whole month one more non-profit event will be taking place in the atmospheric surroundings of Selene, offering guests the chance to get acquainted with the other side of Santorini. A photography exhibition, curated by E. Hatzigiannakis, will be hosting the works of talented Greek photographers, from Santorini and from all over Greece, that will be showcased on the walls and the corridors of the imposing Monastery for all to see and admire. After visiting the exhibition, indulge in the delicacies of Selene Wine Bar and its all-day menus.
Paying homage to the legacy of the late Giorgos Hatzigiannakis, the creator of Selene Restaurant and a pioneer in Santorini’s culinary and wine evolution, Selene Restaurant has planned a series of non-profit events, offering guests the opportunity to experience the cultural and historical wealth of our island. As vineyards are the very soul of Santorini, a very special event will take place in the imposing Selene Wine Caves, revolving of course around the exquisite local wines. This amazing wine exhibition will be held in St. Joseph’s Cave, where local winemakers will have the chance to present their wines to the public, accompanied by delicious treats and refined snacks. The fitting decoration, the setting of the tables and the live music will add their very special touch to this magnificent wine festival.

Food lies in the very soul of every restaurant; so, what is a great restaurant, if not the hard work and creative mind of its chefs? Selene remembers its chefs and honours its long history with a specially designed degustation dinner created by some of the greatest chefs that have worked their magic in its emblematic kitchens in the past years. There is no need to say that such an occasion calls for live music by talented artists and for an exquisite decoration setting, as the gracefully set tables will await for their guests to enjoy a truly unique culinary experience.
The walk around tasting ticket allows guests to stroll around the premises of the restaurant and have the chance to meet and greet some of the leading wine producers of Santorini but also attend the photography exhibition “ Cyclades: Expressions of Light” curated by Zoe Hatziyannaki.
